The History of Keepmanny.com
Last November three guys had an idea. Baseball’s off-season had begun and trade rumors were swirling around Red Sox left-fielder Manny Ramirez. These three friends were perplexed in how anyone would consider trading one of the best right-handed hitters of the last 30 years. They felt that something had to be done. It was decided that they should start a petition to let the Red Sox Organization know that fans did not want to see Manny go. The petition was drawn up and it was put on a website address that would be easy to remember. KeepManny.com was launched on the 29th of November, 2005. The details are somewhat fuzzy but just days after KeepManny.com was launched, thousands of signatures had been added to the petition. ESPN, many local news outlets and countless online news sites were discussing KeepManny.com. The goal of 10,000 signatures was shattered in just days, with one day logging in over 35,000. That’s almost enough people to fill Fenway Park!!! They knew things were working and they continued to get the word out. In the end over 65,000 fans signed the petition and agreed that Manny Ramirez should stay in a Boston Red Sox uniform. Here are some highlights:
11.29.05 - Just hours after being created, KeepManny.com already has 46 signatures. Keep spreading the word!
11.30.05 - The Girls at the Inside Track pick up on KeepManny and spread the word!
11.30.05 - "The Cause" is taking off. Look for KeepManny.com on ESPN.com, BostonDirtDogs.com, and WHDH TV Channel 7 in Boston.
11.30.05 - Look for keepmanny.com on ESPN 2's Cold Pizza tomorrow (Thursday) between 8-10am.
11.30.05 - Thursday morning on ESPN 2's Cold Pizza will be featuring the "Top 5 Most Compelling Signatures on Keepmanny.com."
